Ah Friday night. For the first time in ages I’m home with nothing to do. This is great. I’ll check out some TV. Let’s see here... ooh! Ooh! Channel Ten has Bad Boys on! Man, this rules! A cool movie like that on the one night I need something cool to watch! What are the odds? Well, as it turns out the odds are pretty good that on any given Friday night, somewhere in the world, Channel Ten is playing Bad Boys. It’s also estimated that by the year 2006, Channel Ten will be playing Bad Boys or its sequel, the aptly titled Bad Boys 2 at least three times a week. However, for those of us with DVD players we can buy the damn thing on DVD in a classy Collector’s Edition, or we can buy the same thing on another disc for the same price (without extras) under the header 'Superbit'. "I had to sleep on my couch! I wake up this morning, I got a Power Ranger stuck up my arse!" |
For anyone living under a rock every Friday night for the last five years, Bad Boys is the rather moving story of a relationship between two boys with no shirts who are partners and Bad Boys. They stay up after their bedtime, they ride their bikes in the house and once, one of them sold their little sister to ivory traders. Also, the other one ate peanuts before going to bed and sterilised the cat. Plus, on top of this badness, one of them broke their Dad’s scutch hammer and hid it where he would never find it. Yep, they’s Bad Boys alright. There’s little else to say about this DVD other than that the picture rocks, the sound kicks arse and the explosions are full of those stupid sparkler skyrockets. Also, Martin Lawrence is annoying and Will Smith is up himself. So, this disc really isn’t bringing much to the party we don’t already know, is it?

Dynamic, superb, incredible, unnecessarily detailed. The picture quality is astounding to say the least, but come on - Bad Boys. Are you kidding? What does this have that the other DVD doesn’t? That’s right, no extras.

Well, the 'Superbit' thang just keeps going, obviously working regardless of our disbelief as consumers. As a film Bad Boys is quite watchable with scantily clad women draped all over it (whenever unnecessary) and big guns going kaboom and aeroplanes blowing up and hangars on fire and Porsches racing real fast, but there just wasn’t any need to bring this thing into the 'Superbit' field. Perhaps if they spent more time restoring some classics we could get excited, but who could want this film bad enough when it’s on every other Friday night? Nup. Now I’m gonna be a Bad Boy myself and go drink milk outta the carton.
