Execution (Ep 26)
Joe Caswell. Cowboy. Murderer. Doomed. A spineless, heartless and just plain no-good man. This downright rotten example of a wasted life has been sentenced to hang by the neck for ruthlessly shooting an innocent man in the back. But suddenly plucked from his noose and dropped into the future by a time-travel experimenting scientist, the morally corrupt Caswell is mindful of a second chance in a noisy new confusing world. But has he really managed to escape the fate that dogs us all, or does fate sit patiently, waiting just around the nearest corner, prepared to inflict the inevitable doom a cursed soul brings down upon its own destiny. The inenvitablilty of a fate that’s as sure as the new sun rising every morn and the stars in the heavens shining in all their brilliant glory each and every night. Man, I really gotta stop drinking when I review.

The Hunt (Ep 84)
A loving wife, a faithful dog and a simple life. Ayep, ol’ Hyder Simpson sure is a contented man. Taking off for a coon hunt one night, events turn a might sour when he tries to save his hound Rip from drowning in a creek. Well sir, the bond between a country man and his coon hunting hound is a strong one, so ol’ Simpson went gone jumped right in the water to save him. Not fully realising the consequences and repercussions of his actions, he and Rip find themselves the next day at the gates of Heaven. Only problem is, some confounded fool done decided that dogs are not allowed in. Well, yessiree, like I said, the bond between a man and his dog is a mighty powerful one, so what’s a man to do? A dogless Heaven, or a wandering eternity with his best friend? It’s a time like this when a man needs a good sit on a log. Yes sir. There's nothing like the feeling of bark on your ass to help you think things through.

The Self-Improvement of Salvadore Ross (Ep 136)
Salvadore Ross is an uneducated bum from the wrong side of the tracks. Hung up on the rejection by a high falootin’ social worker he had a thing with, he’s determined to climb the respect ladder out of Palookaville and get what he deserves and the girl back. But Ross isn’t going to do things the normal way, slaving away at menial jobs like some casual joe-shmuck, learning how to talk all proper and stuff, spending years getting nowhere. No, Ross is gonna buy and sell his way there, see? He’ll get the money he need to treat her reals good by selling his youth, see? Then he’ll buy his youth back with all the money he makes. And if that’s not enough, then he’ll buy compassion, cause chicks dig that, see? I think Salvadore Ross can’t see he’s in deep shit, see?

Number Twelve Looks Just Like You (Ep 137)
It’s the future. Well, around the year 2000, anyway. But you can tell it’s the future because the furniture is made of perspex and everyone wears leotards, even the guys. In this bold vision of the future, everyone at the right age undertakes an operation to make them beautiful and handsome. Problem is that you have to choose your look from a preselected catalogue, so there are obviously lots of identical people running around. "But Vincent, how do they tell each other apart?" I hear you ask. Well, fear not, fearful reader. You see, everyone has their name sewn on their leotards, thus avoiding this problem. "But Vincent, what if two identical people have the same name as well? How do we tell them apart then?" you ask. "Shut up", says I. So, anyhow, there's this young lass who doesn't want to undergo the operation for fear she'll be forgotten once she looks like everyone else. Will she resist the treatment, or will she become just another face in the crowd?

These episodes are film based, and the made for television format fullframe black and white picture looks about as crisp, clean, sharp and detailed as usual with just some moire effect catching the eye but a good strong tonal range rendered on screen. The mono audio is pretty even sounding this time, with not much variation between the shows. Most importantly, the dialogue is always nice and easy to understand, and other effects and score are fine without sounding too harsh. Another tick on the score card all round then for this release, I'd happily say.

The extra features on the dvd consist of a selection of text based screens. They contain a Rod Serling Biography, Season By Season Commentary, History Of The Twilight Zone and Reviews of the individual episodes on the disc. Sure, it’s not a comprehensive package, but there’s some good (but brief) reading, and the reviews are quite interesting.

  •   And I quote...
"Remember that crap movie with John Travolta and Olivia Newton John called Two of a Kind with that song, Twist of Fate? No? I didn't think so. What if I hum a few bars for you?"
