Spiceworld: The movie

DVD players of the world, spice up your life. I must say, I did enjoy this movie on dvd. What do the Spice Girls do to get their own back at the media? They make a movie about their lives and how the media portrays them. Girl Power!

The girls first live concert at Royal Albert Hall is in 5 days but Kevin McMaxford (Barry Humphries) is an evil tabloid editor who is out to ruin their reputation. In the process the girls are pitted against each other and disagreements ensure. With their manager losing his marbles, it is not known if the girls will make it to the concert in time.

The plot is very thin but the girls are having fun and if you're in the mood, you'll enjoy having fun with the.

The transfer was generally good with the exception that some scenes were a little less than perfect. The sharpness levels that we are used to are not there and are noticeable in the darker scenes.

Other than that, the colors are vibrant and clean and there is hardly a hint of any compression artifacts. This is a much better transfer than your best VHS product but only a decent transfer on dvd.

  Audio
Contract

The audio brings the quality average of this dvd up a few notches. Basically its the Spice Girl songs that create the atmosphere here and use most of the 5.1 channels.

The rest of the audio is your standard fare so don't expect too much. Dialogue is a little hard to discern at times.

  Extras
Contract

On the widescreen side you get your basic cast & crew biographies. On the pan & scan side, you get the same but an added extra of the spicegirl interviews. It goes for about 20 minutes and is a conglomeration of interview footage about the girls and the movie.

  Overall
Contract

I enjoyed the movie but if their music was left out then it would have been a sad excuse for a waste of film. All you spice fans out there will enjoy this disc immensly.
