    South Park - Vol 1

    Warner Vision/Warner Vision . R4 . COLOR . 96 mins . M15+ . PAL

      Feature
    Contract

They're finally out on DVD in Australia and the verdict is a thumbs up. Am I a huge fan? Not really, mainly because I haven't seen that many episodes and didn't really understand the humor. Am I a fan after watching these discs? Sure am and I'm off to see the movie aswell.

Trey Parker and Matt Stone got together and created a little cartoon called South Park with Characters made out of paper cut-outs. They're not exactly artists but it's the script that really is south park strength. Take out the foul language and all manor of references and you've got nothing. I guess that's the appeal of todays cartoon fan.

Each disc contains 4 episodes with the 3rd of the serious containing the extra episode "Cartmans mum is a dirty slut" which is not found on the region 1 release as I recall. Each episode is preluded with an Intro from the comedic duo and funnily enough, each episode is their favorite.

    Onto the discs themselves.

      Video
    Contract

Ok, for a cartoon of this style, you can't really improve on the video quality. The bittage is right up there in the 9's and there is not even a hint of any artifacting seen.

This could be that I wasn't really paying attention. I mean, having sat through all 3 discs without realising the phone had rang in the other room is kinda freaky.

The colors are clean, the shadow detail is "who cares" it's a cartoon and not a feature film. For those of you wanting the best format to preserve these episodes in, grab these discs. It's a sight better than your real video versions.

      Audio
    Contract

The only audio on this disc is a 2 channel english and 2 channel french track. There's nothing much to say about the audio suffice that it doesn't suffer from the dreaded clicking/popping sound found on the region 1 versions. Does region 4 givec you that "We have it better" feeling of late?

The funniest thing to do with these discs is put the audio in french. Now that will get even more laughs out of you especially when Cartman and Chef are on screen. What a hoot.

      Extras
    Contract

As extras you get a trailer for the South Park TV series and the extra episode on the 3rd disc. There's nothing else but it's a better product than the region 1 set so if you haven't imported, go down to your local retailer and grab them when they're released.

      Overall
    Contract

A great collection for all South Park fans and what better way to prelude the soon to be released movie. If you've been waiting for these, you should be happy with the end product.
