Bananas in Pyjamas - Rock-A-Bye Bananas
    ABC/Roadshow Entertainment . R4 . COLOR . 75 mins . G . PAL

Ever since the early 90's, the Bananas in Pyjamas duo of B1 and B2 have been entertaining kids of all ages with their innocent songs and tunes. It was only a matter of time that this cash-cow would utilise the DVD format to make even more money from unsuspecting parents. Or would that be, knowledgable parents knowing that putting a DVD on repeat will keep the tots entertained for as long as there is power coming to the house.

The first Bananas DVD released from ABC video is a collection of 10 short episodes of their games and adventures in Cuddles Avenue. For this reviewer, it was torture but the content is sure to please and educate young kids. You don't require much to keep them glued to the tube.

Kids aren't going to complain about a sub-standard transfer or edge-enhancement or lack of detail. But we're not kids are we and so we can complain. The image varies from ordinary to good with certain episodes vibrant and evenly saturated to the others being a litle flat and lifeless. The source coming from video doesn't help matters that much with a lack of real resolution and definition. A turn off is the opening intro footage to each episode which is very ordinary, but we're talking old low budget footage here.

Audio wise we are presented with a Dolby 2 channel stereo mix that is adequate enough to get the music and dialogue across. The levels are recorded loud and clear enough to simply play through your TV and be done with it. On the extras front we have a 23 minute "Singing Time" of some 30 nursery rhymes with video quality on par with the main feature and audio of equal quality.
