There's gore and more in this final three-disc set of Series Two of All Creatures Great and Small.
But while we're up to our necks in blood while a misplaced foal gets reseated, it's made up for in a special Christmas episode, as our vets receive a massive Fortnum and Mason's hamper, for having catered to every whim of a rich old lady and her pampered pug. It's called farmyard swings and roundabouts.
Here are the final eight episodes of the second series of 14 episodes. The liner notes claim it to be the final 11 episodes, but they're plain wrong.
These episodes are from 1978, and we've now been given 27 episodes in all, spread over six DVDs, spanning Series One and Two. It seems that we're eventually going to get them all. If you can stand it, that means a further 63 episodes! The series was a marathon one, running for 10 years from 1978, for a total of 90 episodes. I've enjoyed these, but I think I've had enough thank you very much. Please sir, I don't want some more.....
But if you're new to the farmyard goings-on, then don't start here -- go back to the very start -- disc-set one of Series One. It's trivial stuff, but entertaining enough on a cold winter's night.
The quality is the same as on the first disc-set for the series, which means very average indeed, while not quite bad enough to make viewing unpleasant. Sound is commendably clear, given its vintage.
The extras are, as before, totally non-existent, unless you're addled enough to think that subtitles and chapter selections qualify as extras. I don't.
