Well, I'm not going to be late with my reviews again, because when I do Steve punishes me with discs like this. A lot of you seem to like Meatloaf though, so I'll say only this, "Come on, really?". If you do think this cartoon/Broadway music is real rock and roll, though, you should be entertained by the disc, which includes the following gems: songwriter Jim Steinman trying to sing like Meatloaf and failing, Meatloaf trying to sing like he did 22 years ago and failing, and producer Rundgren trying to disguise his lack of love for the music and failing.

Typical of the Classic Album series, the interview footage is generally well detailed, although Rundgren's interviews seem a little soft. Colour is as natural as video footage can be, and black levels are fine. The concert footage (especially from the late '70s) doesn't look as good, with oversaturated colours and muddy shadows. Interestingly, some of the archive footage was sourced from the ABC, so I guess it's true that the album took off here before the rest of the world.

Basic stereo. Fidelity is fine and the interviews are easy to make out. There's a few too many film clips and snippets of live footage for my liking, and not enough discussion about the creation of the album. Or maybe I just preferred hearing discussion of the music over the music itself?

As always, for fans only. Hey, Warner Vision, here's some suggestions for classic albums to cover: Elvis Costello's Armed Forces, R.E.M.'s Murmur and Big Star's Radio City. Hop to it!
