When you think about Sylvester Stallone, what image is conjured up? Is it a deranged talking walnut with arms swinging through a landscape littered with corpses? Is it a picture of a cute and fuzzy little cat, playfully swatting a ball of yarn, which then explodes in a hail of blood red giblets? Is it of Shakespeare spinning in his grave at 10,000rpm?

When I think of Stallone, I normally get a headache. Don't get me wrong, I think he has made some fantastic films, and is often maligned because he has made a few bad decisions... OK, lots of bad decisions... but for every Rocky, Copland and First Blood, there is a STOP! Or I'll Make Another Crap Comedy With A Golden Girl! and Over the Top.

Still, over the years he has gathered a huge following of loyal (yet mildly demented) fans, and at the heart of every full-fledged Pauline Kael wannabe film critic is the childish spirit of someone who loves to yell out "AAAADRIAN!" when they get drunk and nude.

This box set brings together Cobra, Demolition Man, The Specialist and Assassins in a natty high-gloss foldout pack with a cardboard sleeve, for a whole lotta hours of brain-damaging, English-mangling, head-cracking, lip-curling, I.Q.-dropping, drool-dripping, eye-glazing and testosterone-enhancing fun. And that's just trying to get the DVDs out of the sleeve! Wait till you actually play the films...

    REVIEW: The Specialist
"The Specialist generally gets a broken thumb-up, even if the extras only appeal to fans who have climbed down out of the trees and can read."
    - Vince Carrozza

    REVIEW: Assassins
"I notice that I’ve been drinking a lot more since watching this Stallone box set..."
    - Vince Carrozza

    REVIEW: Demolition Man
"A surprisingly good Stallone film lumbered with a pile of junk for a picture. It's a shame, but then that's what we get for being sheep..."
    - Vince Carrozza

    REVIEW: Cobra
"This movie is the disease - my review is the cure..."
    - Steve Koukoulas

Sadly, the extras are nigh on useless and are completely devoid of any entertainment value. They expect us to read some boring text when we just want to see more pointless violence instead? A missed opportunity, me finks.

If you don't currently have any of these Stallone films in your collection, then plonk ya dollars on the table and get yourself a box. It's pretty fairly priced for four DVDs, even if they are overall average-ish quality at best.
