Ali G as transformed from somewhat of a cult figure in Australia to become a massiv 'it wiv young people. Is style of 'umour oftun borders on da obscene, but it is delivered in such a way dat it is not offensive. Before 'is film, Ali G Indahouse, da only exposure 'e did 'ave in dis turf was two short television series' dat aired on da ABC. Since thun 'is popularity as exploded, and dis is 'is earliest video release. Dis DVD consists of a numba of interviews takun from da British 11 o’clock show. Dis program was where Ali G got 'is massiv chill, and 'is own show called Da Ali G Show was born da year afta in 2000. Ali interviews all types of guests included a retired defence serviceman, a prestigious fashion designa and a Welsh 'istorian. 'Alf of da wicked is watchin 'is guests reaction to some of da totally unexpected and off da wall comments 'e makes. In all there is about 20 seperate interviews, and all of dem is well entertainin'. Da geeza behind da characta is Sacha Baron Cohen. Cohen is almost da opposite of 'is alta-ego: 'e was born into a wealthy Jewish crew in Norf London and educated at a prestigious skool. He joined a Jewish yoof group, and attended Cambridge. He studied 'istory, and wrote a thesis on black and Jewish cultures and da 'ardships of minorities. Whun yous check 'is 'umour, it is not 'ard to notice 'is raza sharp wit – 'e picks up on fings 'is guests say and uses them to oftun 'ilarious effect.

The interviews often differ in their aspect ratios – most are in 1.78:1, some in 1.85:1 and a few are in 2.35:1. Unfortunately none of them are 16x9 enhanced. Sharpness is variable throughout, but at no time does it become troublesome. Detail for the most part is easy enough to pick. The colours are good most of the time, except for a couple of interviews which seem slightly washed out. Flesh tones are accurate, as is the shadow detail. The disc is single sided and single layered, so there is no layer change to contend with. There are a variety of subtitles available, and the English set are quite accurate.

There is one audio track available on the disc and it is an English Dolby Digital 2.0 offering. It aint bad, but it’s nothing special. The best word to use to describe it would be serviceable. There are no problems with the dialogue mixing – the audio synchronisation is good and everything that is said is easy to hear. Understanding it is a different matter altogether, as some of Ali’s slang might leave some viewers grappling with it. The surrounds are used only minimally throughout, mostly for background laughter. The subwoofer is not used at all.

If you enjoy Ali G and his style of humour, then you most certainly won’t be disappointed with this release. The transfer is perhaps a little more average than would be expected, but it does the job well enough. Definitely worth a look if you are a fan.
