    Eric Clapton-24 Nights

    Warner Vision/Warner Vision . R4 . COLOR . 90 mins . G . PAL

Recorded live at Londons Royal Albert Hall in 1990-91 we are treated to the great man performing some of his greats from back then with a mixture of 4 piece bands, blues bands, 9 piece bands and an entire orchestra.

This is not like his unplugged album, this is raw electric Clapton at his best.

The imagery on this disc ranges from mediocre to mediocre. Image softness, ghosting of light sources and some over saturated color are the evil spirits that possess this transfer. Black levels are fine throughout but it's hard to see past it at times when the rest of the picture suffers from said possession.

It's interesting to see the difference from the Corrs dvd recorded at the same venue. Granted it is an 8 year difference so it really does show you how greatly recordings have improved in under a decade.

I also noticed slight jerkiness in the transfer. I'm not sure if this was my player (I've never experienced this before) or the transfer. The bit-rate was low enough for any player to handle so it can only be attributed to the encoding on the disc.

The linear PCM soundtrack is exceptional. The diversity in his musical prowess are explored with great detail from your pair of speakers.

The impressive part of the disc is the final 3 songs accompanied by the orchestra. The stage opens up to accomodate all the instruments present which produces a great sounding experience.

Nothing but a slightly animated menu.

I can only recommend this disc for the audio. The video doesn't do dvd justice but is an obvious inprovement of low VHS resolution. The audio is the real winner and Clapton fans will lap this disc up once they sit down in front of it.
