Fifty-three films created in a career spanning more than fifty years, both an impressive resume as well as an amazing accomplishment by any standards. And then when you consider how many of these are true cinematic masterpieces, director Alfred Hitchcock left a legacy nobody could ever hope to repeat. This set contains seven of his final films, from the acrophobic psychological thriller Vertigo, to the sometimes terrifying The Birds, through to the final production before his demise, the rather gaudy '70s kitsch of Family Plot. In between these came another of his underrated gems, Marnie, the 007-ish thrillers Topaz and Torn Curtain, plus the return to his English roots and possibly his finest latter day creation, the often grisly but always nail biting Frenzy.

REVIEW: Vertigo - Collector's Edition "Vertigo is an onion; the more you watch, the more layers you discover..." - Paul Dossett |
| |
REVIEW: The Birds "Unforgivably released locally in the wrong ratio, FAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARK!!!" - Amy Flower |
| |
REVIEW: Frenzy "Frenzy is quite an un-hailed masterpiece that deserves a place in the collection of any suspense fan..." - Amy Flower |
| |
REVIEW: Family Plot "Certainly not a filmic epitaph particularly fitting of the great Alfred Hitchcock..." - Amy Flower |
| |
REVIEW: Marnie "A psychological thriller that tends to slowly constrict about you to the point where you are undoubtedly hooked. What a shame it's another botched visual presentation..." - Amy Flower |
| |
REVIEW: Topaz "Easily one of the worst films to ever feature a directing credit with the name Alfred Hitchcock next to it..." - Amy Flower |
| |
REVIEW: Torn Curtain "Another slaughtered visual presentation, movie-wise this is an OK mix of intrigue, maths, boats, blades, ballet and blankets, but nothing to lose any sleep over if missed either..." - Amy Flower |

Not necessarily a collection of the Master of Suspense's greatest works, matters are certainly not helped by the average treatment given to many of the films included in this set. Surprisingly, after the fabulous effort bestowed upon the first Alfred Hitchcock Collection DVDs, here we have many of the included films cropped to full frame, rather than appearing in their original ratios. This is made all the more disappointing and annoying when our noses are well and truly rubbed in the fact with a further series of generally fabulous features on the making of each film, displaying correct ratios throughout - the way in which they were released in the US market. All these films are available separately, and to be honest this set features some of Hitchcock's lesser works, as it could be argued he seemed to lose his way somewhat as pressure to deliver by Hollywood mounted as it entered its blockbuster period in the mid-60s - something it has never really recovered from. Unlike the first release, this collection as a whole is really only going to be of interest to the fan's of Hitch who wish to have as complete a set of his works as possible - those with a more casual interest in the man's work may wish to selectively choose one or two titles.
